Custom cabinets: Trends to watch

If you’re planning to go with custom cabinets for your kitchen or bath, the sky’s the limit when it comes to what you can add. Unlike stock, or even semi-custom (the latter having many limitations), you’ll be able to choose your own color, wood style, shape, and add any features, including a wine rack.

That being said, we wanted to alert you to some trends but, first, know the difference between a trend and a fad. Trends are just upgrades to existing classic items; there has been extensive research and analysis in this. A fad is a knee-jerk reaction with no research, such as the old “pet rock” craze.

Premier Floor Center is your go-to for any home renovation. We have 18 years’ experience in the construction industry and we know a lot about how to work alongside contractors. You also get extensive product knowledge and we’ll always pay close attention to detail to ensure your complete satisfaction. Our showroom is in Dyersburg, TN and we service Dyer County, Obion County, Gibson County, Lauderdale County, Lake County, Crockett County, as well as Pemiscot County, MO.

The hottest trends right now are:

  • Simplicity and minimalism. People opt for clean, clear lines that make design statements. We suspect it might have something to do with the popularity of backsplashes (which are now even in bathrooms) to become a focal point of either room.

  • Reclaimed wood. Even if you’re going stock, some companies are moving to the more natural, environmentally-friendly materials.

  • White cabinets. People just love this look, and it’s just not expected to go out of style anytime soon. It works with any decor, especially the farmhouse/rustic look that’s so popular right now and people either keep the kitchen entirely white or add colorful backsplashes to make focal points. Alternatively, however, dark shades and exotic finishes are also clean and striking. Even if you’re not planning to replace them, you can always paint for a custom look.

  • Custom cabinets and colors. People don’t want those cookie-cutter designs, so they’re opting to have their cabinets painted to suit their environment. Neutrals are always popular, but some of the darker shades, such as emerald green or navy blue that give the high-end look we all love.

  • Bathroom vanities to match the rest of the built-ins. Especially if the bathroom is on the main floor, it can match those in the kitchen and elsewhere to keep a sense of consistency.

  • Appliance-hiding containers. Make them large enough to fit a refrigerator to make the room look and feel larger and airier.

  • Freestanding. Sometimes referred to as vanities, they are perfect for powder rooms or half baths.

Remember, it is custom, so your contractor can’t just pick up the cabinets in a store, so delivery can take some time. However, you get exactly what you want!
